Ruth M Bridges — Counsellor and Supervisor
Penrith, North Lakes
Counselling, Spiritual Accompaniment, Supervision
Hello and welcome…
I’m an experienced and intuitive counsellor/psychotherapist working in the Penrith and North Lakes area of Cumbria offering Counselling, Spiritual Accompaniment and Supervision in my quiet and comfortable private practices. I qualified as a Person-Centred Counsellor in 2006 and recently relocated to Cumbria from Cheshire, having worked for ten years in and around the Chester and Nantwich areas.
How do I work?
I hold a deep belief in our capacity for personal growth and understanding and this strongly guides the way I work. I provide a warm and gentle therapeutic environment within which you can move towards enhanced self-understanding and emotional well-being. I find it a great honour to be with my clients and work with the deepest respect, sensitivity and care.
I’m a full and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy – BACP and am bound by its ‘Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions’ (2016). In accordance with professional guidelines I have regular supervision within a professional context.
How can Counselling help?
Life is unpredictable and can face us with considerable hurt and pain; counselling can offer solace when things feel overwhelming. As a Person-Centred Counsellor I am non-directive and non-advice giving. By providing you with the therapeutic conditions of empathy, authenticity and respect, I will support you to listen to your own voice – honouring who you are and how you want to live your life.
Perhaps you struggle with anxiety and depression or low self-esteem and would like to try to find ways of living more fully or freely. You might want to talk about difficulties at work or within your family, or feel you need to be supported through bereavement, relationship challenges, or sexual difficulties. Counselling can also provide care and support through pregnancy or miscarriage, illness, or the ageing process…or offer you a warm and compassionate space to begin to recover from trauma or loss.
…and Spiritual Accompaniment?
Spiritual Accompaniment offers a valuable opportunity to talk about, and reflect on, the deeper aspects of your spiritual life and/or faith. I maintain my own spiritually reflective practices and I believe in the importance of stillness and silence in enabling us to be in greater contact with our ‘true self’. Spiritual Accompaniment shares much with counselling but has some distinct differences – please contact me if you are interested and/or would like to discuss (see also – Services).
